Overview
Main identification features
  • 7-9 orange stripes
  • d: xiv
  • dorsal fin and a: not scaly
Elongate; dorsal rays XIV,15; anal rays III,12; lateral-line scales about 80; body slender, depth 3.1-3.3 in standard length; gill rakers on lower limb of first arch 17; dorsal and anal fins mainly scaleless.

Overall silvery grey with 7-9 narrow orange stripes on side, some of stripes above lateral line broken and forming wavy pattern.

Size: to 45 cm.

Habitat: usually seen in sandy areas near the edge of reefs.

Depth: 5-30 m?.

Southern California and central Gulf of California to Manzanillo (central Mexico).
