  • soft dorsal fin and a: scales between rays
  • body scales with small accessory scales
  • pelvics less than less than pectorals
  • preopercle finely serrated
  • a: 2nd, 3rd spines similar
MICROLEPIDOTUS

GRUNTS

Body elongate, compressed; preopercle finely serrated to toothed, without large spines; not red inside mouth; 2nd anal spine not much larger and thicker than 3rd spine; pelvic fins much shorter than pectorals; body scales generally with clusters of small accessory scales at their bases; soft dorsal and anal fins with scales on membranes between rays.

The only two members of this genus are both endemic to our region.
