Elongate, compressed body; head deep; snout short; mouth large, oblique; opercle serrated, short, blunt spine at upper edge; preopercle serrated but without large spine at edge; 13-15 dorsal rays; 11-12 anal rays; 30-34 rakers on first gill arch; 40-47 lateral line scales; 3.5 scale rows between lateral line and dorsal fin base.

Uniform yellowish red body and fins.

Size: 19 cm.

Habitat: rocky reef.

Depth: 5-50 m.

Restricted to the Revillagigedos Islands and Clipperton Atoll.
