Tail tip flexible; tail fin rays conspicuous, confluent with dorsal and anal fins; body long and slender, tail (tail tip to anus) much longer than head and trunk (snout tip to anus); snout broad and depressed; dorsal fin originating well posteriorly, closer to anus than to snout tip; pectoral fins well developed; front nostril tubular, posterior nostril opens into mouth; gill opening small, at side.

Pale grey to whitish, darker speckling above.

Size: grows to 47 cm.

Habitat: soft bottoms.

Depth: 0-15 m.

Southern California to the Gulf of California to Peru.
