Overview
Main identification features Roosterfish

Dorsal rays VIII + I, 25; spines of first dorsal fin, except first one, forming long filaments (except in juveniles); anal rays II, 15; pectoral rays 16; scales small and in irregular rows, about 130 in lateral series; anterior rays of second dorsal and anal fins moderately elevated; tail fin strongly forked; pectoral fins very long and curved.

Bluish grey with silvery reflections; a broad blackish bar across rear part of head and pair of obliquely curved black bands on side.

Grows to at least 191cm, and 51.7 kg.

Inhabits sandy shores; an angling favorite that is sometimes caught by trolling close to beaches.

Depth: 0-20 m.

Northern Baja California to the SW and eastern Gulf of California to Peru, and the Galapagos and Malpelo.
