Overview
Main identification features Elongate, worm-like; head long (~1/5 length of body), pointed snout slightly overhangs mouth; mouth ~1/3 head length; teeth small, conical, in single rows on jaws, 2 rows on front of vomer and 1 row at rear; nostrils nontubular, rear one immediately before middle of eye; dorsal begins a little before anus; median fins continuous, evident near end of tail; body and tail about same length; pectoral present, small, behind top of vertical, lateral gill opening; lateral line on body to level of anus.

Yellowish-olive on body and fins, finely dotted with black.

Size: 35 cm.

Habitat: burrows in sand and mud bottoms.

Depth: 5-65 m.

The central Gulf of California to Colombia.
