Dorsal rays 13-15, origin of dorsal just behind origin of anal; anal with long base, 43-48 rays; pelvic fins absent; mouth at front, lower jaw not proyecting; no gap between teeth-bearing outer edge of premaxilla and maxilla; lower jaw not projecting; body slender, its depth about 3.8-4.0 in standard length; about 26 scutes on belly.
Greenish brown on back, silvery white below with a silver mid-lateral band; tip of dorsal and top of tail blackish.
Size: grows to 11 cm.
Habitat: forms large schools in bays, estuaries, and in brackish river mouths.
Depth: 0-10 m?.
Southern Baja and the SE Gulf of California to northern Peru.
