Overview
Main identification features Dorsal rays 12, fin tiny, origin well behind origin of anal fin; anal fin with very long base, 61-68 rays; pelvic fins absent; body slender, its depth about 4.2-4.9 in standard length; top of head very concave; breast and belly strongly compressed with uninterrupted keel of about 29-30 scutes; mouth oblique; upper jaw very long, reaching to or beyond gill opening.

Overall silvery.

Maximum length to 21 cm.

Inhabits coastal seas, sometimes entering brackish estuaries.

Depth: 0-10 m?.

El Salvador to Colombia.
