Disc-like flattened body; bony horn projecting forward before eye; pectoral and pelvic fins limb-like; dorsal 3-4 (usually 4) rays; anal 4 rays; 13-15 (usually 14) pectoral rays; skin with protruding, bony spines (like sandpaper, without spines in O. darwini); fringe of hairs along lower side, from mouth to base of tail fin (absent in O. darwini); mass of long hairs on tip of horn (fewer and shorter in O. darwini).
Upper back pale brown; series of irregular dark blotches along upper side of body; pale bar under eye; orange red to creamy white along ventral surface.
Size: 16 cm.
Habitat: rocky and sandy bottoms.
Depth: 35-150 m.
Cocos and Malpelo only.
