Click on image to enlarge. © Copyright Photographer/SFTEP, 2002 · 0 Ogilbia jewettae 2 thumbnails  •  slide show español Overview Main identification features top jaw end deep dorsal fin 63-73 lower jaw - rear 3 pores large anal fin origin under dorsal fin 23-32 Jewett’s brotula Body elongate and somewhat compressed; head relatively long (23.8-26.9% of SL) and low (height 13.2-15.8% of SL); mouth large, a little under snout; rear end of top jaw deep; snout rounded; a sharp spine on opercle that has 1 tip; eye relatively large (1.9-2.7% of SL); upper part of preopercle with a pore; 3 rear pores on lower jaw relatively large, almost = rear nostril; gill rakers 13-16; origin of dorsal fin at level of middle of pectoral fins; pelvic fins inserted below rear part of head; dorsal rays 63-73; anal rays 52-62; origin of anal fin under dorsal rays 23-31; pectoral rays 19-22; tail fin rays 16-17; body covered with relatively large overlapping scales, about 110 in midlateral series; patch of cheek scales with 6-7 vertical rows of scales; belly with scales; penis curved, thin, tapering; 2 pairs of large pseudoclaspers associated with penis, outer pair wing-shaped, with a single broad supporter at front, inner pair club-shaped, with a fleshy ridge along inner side, tip strongly expanded, occasionally flattened and with a rear lobe.
