Sedora’s brotula

Body elongate and somewhat compressed; head relatively long (23.2-26.9% of SL); narrow between eyes; rear end of top jaw deep; snout rounded; a sharp spine on opercle that has 1 tip in juveniles and 2-3 tips in adult; eye relatively large (1.9-2.8% of SL); upper part of preopercle with a pore; gill rakers 12-16; origin of dorsal fin at level of middle of pectoral fins; pelvic fins inserted below rear part of head; dorsal rays 63-73; anal rays 47-54; origin of anal fin under dorsal fin rays 20-26; pectoral rays 18-21; tail fin rays 16-17; body covered with tiny overlapping scales, about 110 in midlateral series; patch of cheek scales with 7-8 vertical rows of scales; belly with scales; penis moderately long, curved, tapering, thin; 2 pairs of long pseudoclaspers associated with penis, outer pair very slender, wing-shaped, inner pair long, stalked, with 3 branches at tip, front branch curved, center branch stout, rear branch an ear-shaped flap.

Yellowish brown, white on lower part of head and belly; dorsal and anal fin bases yellowish.

Size: reaches 6.5 cm.

Inhabits shallow reefs.

Depth: 1-15 m.

The SE Gulf of California to northern Colombia.
