Snout blunt; palm-like cirri over eye and on nape; sharp, conical spine on operculum; dorsal fin composed primarily of spines, but with one ray, XXVII-XXIX, 1, 1st spine long (equal to or longer than length in front of dorsal fin); anal II, 19-20; pectoral 13-14; pelvic I, 3; lateral line scales 36-38; scales on nape; pectoral fin base with >1 row of scales; no skin flaps on scales.

Head and body pink to orange, with dusky areas; nape cirri black; eye cirrus pale; ocellus at rear of dorsal fin; anal fin with a row of dark blotches; dorsal fin +/- dark bars; pectoral +/- spotted bars.

Size: 6.2 cm.

Habitat: rocky coastal shores.

Depth: 5-40 m.

Endemic to the central and southern western Gulf of California.
