Overview
Main identification features
  • groove: nape to eye; eye: 1 many-branched cirrus
  • d: no notch, black blotch at front
  • mottled, saddles on back; a: dark outer line
Body slender; nostril with a short, 2-branched cirrus; 1 pair short, heavily branched cirri above eyes; groove along side of head between nape and eye; jaw teeth incisor-like, in 1 row, immovable, no canines; gill openings restricted to sides of body by fusion of gill cover membranes to throat; dorsal VIII-IX, 15-16, no notch between spiny & soft parts; anal II, 24; pelvic I, 3; lateral line straight, ends above anal origin.

Body light, with dark mottling, blotches & series short dark saddles along base of dorsal; dark spots along body above anal fin; red-edged black spot over 1st 3 dorsal fin spines; anal with dark band along outer half.

Size: 3 cm.

Habitat: rocky shores.

Depth: 0-10 m?.

El Salvador to Peru.
