Perichaena vermicularis
Overview
Usually plasmodiocarpous, gregarious to scattered, sessile, (0.15-)0.2-0.3(-0.5) mm wide, up to 1.6 cm long, varying to ± globose and then sporocarpous on a narrowed base, 0.15-0.4 mm diam. Hypothallus usually not apparent, sometimes membranous and common to a group. Myxocarps usually dull ochraceous to dull reddish brown. Peridium double, the outer layer cartilaginous, opaque, somewhat thickened with granular matter, the inner membranous, hyaline, conspicuously papillate on the inner surface. Dehiscence irregular. Capillitium abundant, branching and densely tangled, flexuose, of pale yellow, irregular threads, 2-2.5(-4) µm diam., marked with delicate ridges, minute warts, or short spines less than 2 µm long. Spore-mass ochraceous yellow. Spores hyaline, faintly warted, (10-)10.5-12(-15) µm diam.
