Adults inhabit slow flowing, often turbid waters over mud or gravel bottoms. Feed primarily on algae (Ref.

). Small mouth equipped with rows of flattened teeth is suited fro scraping algae off rocks, wood and bottom litter (Ref.

). Eggs are guarded and fanned by the male parent (Ref.
