Overview
Grows and sporulates on hay infusion agar or fortified corn meal agar with the yeast Rhodotorula mucilaginosa . Cells are orange-pigmented. Stalks are tapered apically, typically with small apical enlargement, 50-100 µm long. Spores round, non-apophysate, only occasionally deciduous, 7.5-13 µm in diam. Trophic stage amoeboid, mostly uninucleate, sometimes 2-3-nucleate, developing 1-5 (-7) flagella in water. Microcysts round, oval or oblong, occasionally somewhat irregular, 8.4-20 X 8.4-24 µm.
