Dorsal rays III + XII-XIV, 15-17 (total elements 30-33); segmented anal rays 24-26 (usually 24 or 25); pectoral rays 13-15 (usually 14); total lateral-line scales 39-42; scales in straight (posterior) part of lateral line 11-14 (usually 12 or 13); lateral line deflected ventrally below 3rd-5th segmented dorsal rays; first 3 dorsal spines forming isolated or semi-isolated finlet; dorsal finlet relatively tall (its height about 87-107% of distance from its origin to snout tip); eye with papillae.
Overall whitish with large pair of Y-shaped blackish bars on middle of side; narrower blackish bars also present just behind head and across base of tail fin.
Size: reaches 4.4 cm.
Habitat: sandy bottoms.
Depth: 3-40 m.
Costa Rica and Panama.
