Overview
Main identification features

Dorsal rays III + XIV-XVI, 16-18 (total elements 33-35); segmented anal rays 26-29 (usually 27-28); pectoral rays 13-15 (usually 14); total lateral-line scales 41-44; scales in straight (posterior) part of lateral line 16-19; lateral line deflected ventrally below junction between last dorsal spine and first segmented dorsal ray; first 3 dorsal spines forming isolated or semi-isolated finlet; dorsal finlet low, its height about 40-63% of length in front of dorsal fin; lower lip hairs 5-17; patch of several scales on upper part of preopercle; eye papillae present.

White with 4-5 blackish bars on side and longitudinal row of silvery - white spots on lower side; a strong, broad white bar just behind the operculum; some specimens have broadly expanded dark bars with relatively narrow white spaces between them.

Size: attains 6.8 cm.

Habitat: sandy bottoms.

Depth: 1-20 m.

Galapagos Islands.
