Blue-grey upper head and body; silvery below; dorsal fin white with grey rays, and; tail fin dark violet; pectorals with membranes dark violet, rays silvery, top rear corner and lower part clear; anal fin clear; pelvics with first and last rays clear, rest dark violet, membrane violet. Juveniles with yellow back; rear of dorsal fin black; membranes of pectorals and pelvics black.
Size: 25 cm.
Habitat: oceanic pelagic.
Depth: surface, 0-20 m?.
