Click on image to enlarge. © Copyright Photographer/SFTEP, 2002 · 0 Prognichthys sealei 2 thumbnails  •  slide show español Overview Main identification features dorsal fin and tail fin grey pectoral - 1st 4 rays unbranched pectoral -dark above, clear below pelvic - black, 1st and last rays clear Pectoral reaches past anal base, first 4 pectoral rays unbranched, 12-14 branched rays; lateral line without branch to pectoral base; dorsal fin 10-11 rays; pelvic origin closer to anal origin than pectoral base, fin reaches past anal fin; anal fin 8-9 rays, its origin under 4th or 5th dorsal ray; 26-27 scales before dorsal fin; juvenile without chin barbels. Blue-grey upper head and body; silvery below; dorsal fin white with grey rays, and; tail fin dark violet; pectorals with membranes dark violet, rays silvery, top rear corner and lower part clear; anal fin clear; pelvics with first and last rays clear, rest dark violet, membrane violet. Juveniles with yellow back; rear of dorsal fin black; membranes of pectorals and pelvics black. Size: 25 cm. Habitat: oceanic pelagic. Depth: surface, 0-20 m?.
