PSEUDOJULOIDES
WRASSE
Elongate (body depth 20-25% of standard length); snout long; mouth small, at front or nearly so, horizontal or slightly oblique; 1 pair of strongly projecting canine teeth at front of jaws; sides of jaws with small, chisel-like teeth; sometimes a canine tooth at rear of jaw; 14-19 gill rakers; dorsal fin IX, 11-12; anal fin III, 12; scales on chest and nape smaller than those on rest of body; scales large, 28 on lateral line, last one enlarged; 3-5 scales above lateral line to origin of dorsal fin, 7-9 below lateral line to origin of anal fin; lateral line complete, bends down abruptly under soft dorsal fin to straight part of line on base of tail; tail end straight or nearly so.
An Indo-Pacific genus with 11 species; one described from a single juvenile specimen collected at Baja California.
