Click on image to enlarge. © Copyright Gerald Allen, 2006 · 0 Pseudupeneus grandisquamis 2 thumbnails  •  slide show español Overview Main identification features reddish + rows pearl spots dark blotch under 1st dorsal fin Dorsal rays VIII + I, 8 (first dorsal spine minute, often embedded); anal rays II, 6; pectoral rays 13-16; lateral-line scales 28-32; 3 scale rows between the two dorsal fin; body relatively deep, the depth 3.0-3.6 in standard length. Brownish red to violet on back, reddish or pink on sides and whitish below, a blackish blotch on lateral line below spinous dorsal fin; pearly spots and streaks on head and narrow pearly stripes or rows of spots on upper side. Size: to about 30 cm. Habitat: usually found away from reefs on sand or mud bottoms, frequently caught by trawlers. Depth: 1-67 m. Baja and the Gulf of California to Chile, Galapagos, Cocos and the Revillagigedos. Attributes Abundance: Common. Cites: Not listed.
