Overview
Cultivated on oak-bark agar (Olive 1975, p.254) or wMY agar (0.02 g malt extract, 0.02 g yeast extract, 0.75 g K2HPO4, and 15 g agar/L distilled water) in association with bacteria isolated from its original substrate. Sporocarp variable in height, 45-110 µm tall. Stalk straight to slightly curving, 38-90 µm long. Single spore at tip of stalk, globose, strongly reticulate, uninucleate (rarely binucleate), 7-20 µm in diam. Spores germinate to produce a single uninucleate amoeba. Amoeba is branched with numerous, often branched filose subpseudopodia. Pseudopodia of amoeba can fuse to produce large plasmodia but no nuclear fusion is observed. Prespore cells uninucleate (rarely containing several nuclei), round, and form from single amoebae or segments of plasmodia. Cysts globose to oblong or irregular, 7-32 x 7-58 µm.
