Dorsal rays V + I, 9; anal rays II, 8-9; pectoral with 16 rays; origin of pelvic fin well behind pectoral fin, under 1st dorsal fin; scales very small, about 200+ in mid-lateral series and 160-170 in lateral line; body elongate, the depth 7.0-8.0 in standard length; eye about 10.0 in head length; teeth of moderate length.

Generally silvery with about 20 faint dark bars on upper side; fins pale.

Size: reaches 76 cm.

Habitat: coastal pelagic.

Depth: 0-25 m.

Southern Baja and the Gulf of California to central Mexico.
