Dorsal rays VIII, 13; anal rays III, 11; pectoral rays 13-15; lateral line scales 25-27; 16-19 spines on first gill arch; head scaleless; each jaw with a pair of canines at front followed by gradually shorter, conical teeth, no canine at rear of jaw; tail fin with straight to slightly concave edge.
Initial phase: white lower half, greenish above, with an interrupted broad dark stripe along the midline. Terminal phase: mainly rose pink with a broad yellow bar behind the head; tail fin bluish.
Size: reaches 12 cm.
Habitat: lives on a coral reef.
Depth: 0-60 m.
Endemic to Clipperton Atoll.
