Body relatively slender, elongate, head relatively slender; 8-10 rakers on 2nd & 3rd gill arch; a small fleshy swelling at pectoral base; front nostril with medium (usually a little longer than nostril diameter) skin flap; rear nostril before front of eye; 4 pairs of upper & lower incisors, inner pair plain, outer ones 3-pointed, followed by 1 large canine on top jaw, & 1-2 on lower jaw; operculum attaches to body opposite top of pectoral base; anus closer to anal fin origin than sucker; pectoral 19-20 rays; sucker with broad patch of papillae at front, no papillae in center, 5-8 rows of papillae across rear section; dorsal 7-9 rays; anal 6-9 rays; tail 8-10 rays.

(Preserved fish) Top pale, with numerous small dark grey & black dots and wiggly lines on side; a large dark spot on flank above pectoral base; fins dusky, with clear margins.

Size: 6.5 cm.

Habitat: rocks.

Depth: 0-10 m.

Galapagos and Peru to Chile.
