Overview
Main identification features
  • brown + yellow spots
Dorsal rays 46-49; anal rays 33-35; pectoral rays absent; scales in longitudinal series 70-74; body ovate, nearly round, its depth 1.4-1.5 in standard length; ring of cirri on margin of eye-side front nostril; opercular margin on blind side mostly without scales.

Overall dark brown with pale yellow spots and blotches.

Size: reaches at least 9 cm.

Inhabits flat sand or mud bottoms.

Depth: 2-40 m.

Southern Mexico to Peru.
