Click on image to enlarge. © Copyright Ross Robertson, 2006 · 12 Umbrina bussingi 2 thumbnails  •  slide show español Overview Main identification features body ovallarge eye no stripes c: s or blunt point inside operculum black pectoral: long a: 2nd spine less than 1st ray Body moderately elongate, oval, both profiles convex; back high; head low, broad, conical, snout pointed; eye large; mouth ~horizontal, under projecting snout; 1 short, thick barbel on chin; teeth in bands on each jaw, outer row on top jaw larger; preopercle finely serrated; 17-22 rakers on 1st gill arch; dorsal XI spines, 21-23 rays; anal II spines, 6-7 rays, 2nd spine slender, almost as long as 1st ray; pectorals long, pointed, longer than pelvics, 17-19 rays; tail S shaped or with angular point; 45-49 lateral line scales. Silver grey, body without stripes; fins dusky; inside mouth and gill chamber black. Size: 39 cm. Habitat: sandy bottoms. Depth: 30-185 m. The tip of Baja to Ecuador. Attributes Abundance: Common.
