Overview

  • denticles: dense at front, none on tail
  • no thorns
  • back: covered in dark reticulations
Disc oval-shaped, with front-side margins nearly straight; snout pointed, but not forming projection; tail greater than one-half of total length; tail fin robust and of equal height over most of length, its tip rounded; denticles in adults dense on snout and in front of eyes, sparse on back behind eyes and over mid-portion of gut cavity, in two or three rows around inner and outer edges of spiracles, absent from tail.

Tan with dark brown to blackish vermiculations covering entire upper surface.

Size: largest specimen, 24.1 cm total length (disc width 13 cm).

Habitat: sandy bottom.

Depth: 2-15 m.

Costa Rica and Panama.
