Overview
Main identification features
  • thorns: 1 row back and tail
  • denticles: snout, disc edges and (in rows) center
  • light brown, scattered dark spots
Disc angular, somewhat diamond-shaped; front-side margins nearly straight; tip of snout pointed, slightly projecting; tail greater than one-half of total length; caudal fin relatively narrow, pointed; small denticles on snout, along margin of disc, area behind scapular region at midline of disc; a row of ~30 thorns from nape along middle of back and top of tail to base of spine, denticles arranged in longitudinal rows on top of body cavity.

Top plain light brown to brown with out distinctive marks, white below.

Size: to 46.2 cm (28 cm wide).

Habitat: soft bottoms.

Depth: 2-30 m.

Southern Baja and the Gulf of California to Ecuador.
