Disc elongate oval; eyes relatively large (>1/3 space between them) pectorals continuous around head; tail slender; 1 large venomous spine on tail; no dorsal fins; tail length greater than disc length; tail fin elongate oval, upper and lower lobes not confluent; denticles and thorns with similar form - high, recurved cones with star bases; thorns regularly spaced along midback from nape to tail fin in 1-2 rows; denticles dense over entire disc and upper tail, densest between snout to midback, dense on front of upper lobe of tail fin.
(Preserved fish) top of disc, pelvics and tail dark grey-brown, with broad white edging; cream below with a brown stripe from pelvic fins to origin of tail spine.
Size: 27 cm (15 cm wide).
Habitat: soft bottom.
Depth: 2-15 m?.
