Elongate; eye large; mouth large, lower jaw projecting; dorsal rays X + I, 13-14, spinous and soft portions of dorsal fin completely separate, base of spinous part longer than base of soft part; anal rays III, 10-11; lateral-line scales 50-52; gill rakers on lower limb of first arch 23; body elongate, depth 3.5-4.0 in standard length.

Silvery with about 7 black stripes on side.

Size: attains 30 cm.

Habitat: forms daytime aggregations containing hundreds of individuals, along rocky shores.

Dept: 3-20 m.

Galapagos Islands.
