Biological Description

The description of Alps Road Elementary is based on the biological habitat found within the school property limits. Trees and herbs were our main focus of identification. The overall property was divided into two habitats, Forest and Grassy. Alps Elementary school is located in a suburban area of Athens, Georgia which limits the natural growth of a forest. However,a plot of land containing the greatest number of trees was designated as a forest. Tress and herbs were analyzed in both these habitats. It was found that the most common tree was the American Pine, and least common Cherry Birch. The most common herb was found to be the White Clover "Trifolium repens" and the least being the Yarrow "Achillea millefolium". Most of the species observed were found to be native as opposed to exotic plants. Below is a chart that illustrates all tress found on the property and eight herbs from both the grassy and forest habitat.
