Aerial Photograph of Burney Harris Lyons Middle School

Site Description

As seen in the photo above, the school is located on a large tract of land without other developements in adjacent areas. The site is located in a mostly rural area. The nearest developements are neighborhoods, and even these are sparse. It is located on medium-sized roadway. The school itself is 6 separate buildings, 5 surrounding one central building. The entire school is surrounded by a large grassy area, with some wooded areas on the west and north sides. A drainage ditch outlines the front perimeter of the school along Tallassee Road. The front of the school, the area first accessed from Tallassee Road, is a large grassy area with landscaping of trees and some shrubs. Landscaping is uniform around the school. To the right of here is a parking lot, and another grassy area for recreation, including a cement basketball court. To the left of the front of the school is another large grassy area used as a soccer field. At the far end of this soccer field is fenced in drainage area, that presumably fills when large amounts of rainfall occurs. Behind this drainage area is another access road that leads to the rear of the school. This road is lined by trees, which eventually becomes a deeper forested area. Some of the trees and herbs located in this area can be found in the Tree and Herb descriptions of this web page.
