scientific name -prunus serotina

Description Leaves 2-6 inches long 1-11/2 inches wide, oval to
oblong and pointed at each end; margins toothed,
dark green, smooth and shiny above, pater and smooth
below. Fruit in clutchers, spherical, 11 to 1/2
inches in diamiter, black juicy, sweet, edible when
ripe. bark dark, red-brown, on young trunks smooth,
on old trunks scaly. Tree sometimes 100 feet high
with a trunk 4 to 5 feet in diamiter.

It is found in the state, but grows best in rich soil
of mountain covers.
