An Easy Guide To Netscape Navigator
Written by Jessica Tanner

Netscape Navigator is a web browser that can help you search the web, email, and use other internet related resources. The first part of Netscape Navigator that we will focus on will be the the items on the toolbar. The toolbar is an area at the top of the screen where there are commands such as back, forward, and stop. Let's take a look at what happens when you click on each command.

Underneath these commands is the location bar. This bar tells you the address of the current page that the user is on. The user may also use this area to type in a URL (address) that they wish to go to. This feature is similar to the Open command that will allow the user to open a new location.

One of the most useful of these commands is Net Search. This command allows the user to go to a page where there are several different search engines. Search engines allow you to search the web by typing in a name, subject, or key word. Some of the most common search engines are Alta Vista, Excite, Hot Bot, InfoSeek, Lycos, and LookSmart. Any of these search engines can aide you in finding information on the web. All the search engines have relatively the same format, but they sometimes offer different services and the user may feel more comfortable with one format than another. So try a few different search engines and use whatever you like best.

At the bottom of every page, there is a thin gray bar called the progress bar. In this area, the user can see the URL (address) of the page they will go to by clicking on a link on a given web page.

One additional important item is the Bookmark command at the top of the computer screen. This command can be used to save the URL's (addresses) of your favorite web sites. Once you bookmark a site, you do not have to worry about remembering the address. All you have to do is pull down the bookmark file menu and click on the web page that you book marked. The computer will take you directly to that page.
