Phenology graphs
Use the following URL to display seasonal differences across species, sites, and years of the number of photographs taken each night.
http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20m?plot=2
To this URL append the following:
-
Species name(s) --
&kind=Genus+species
for one species.
(Note: a 'plus' is required between the genus and the species.)
e. g.,
http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20m?plot=2&kind=Clemensia+albata
&kind=Genus1+species1,Genus2+species2 graphs two species.
(Note: separate multiple species with commas.)
-
Site(s) --
&site=latitude+longitude
for one site.
(Note: a 'plus' is required between the latitude and the longitude.
Use decimal degrees, prepending a minus sign before southern and western sites.)
e. g.,
http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20m?plot=2&kind=Clemensia+albata&site=33.9+-83.3
&kind=latitude1+longitude1,latitude2+longitude2 for two sites.
(Note: separate multiple sites with commas.)
-
Year(s) --
&date1=year
for one year.
(Note: a 'plus' is required between the latitude and the longitude.
Use decimal degrees, prepending a minus sign before southern and western sites.)
&date1=year1,year2
(Note: separate multiple years with commas.)
e. g.,
http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20m?plot=2&kind=Clemensia+albata&site=33.9+-83.3&date1=2011,2012,2013
-
Vertical scale --
&yscale=number
where the default number is 2.
Use 4 to double the height of the bars and .5 to halve them.
e. g.,
http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20m?plot=2&kind=Clemensia+albata&site=33.9+-83.3&date1=2011,2012,2013&yscale=4
-
Full moons --
&flags=moon: shows full moons with yellow marks on the horizontal axis.
(Note: trailing colon after each flag option.)
e. g.,
http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20m?plot=2&kind=Clemensia+albata&site=33.9+-83.3&date1=2011,2012,2013&yscale=4&flags=moon:
-
Simplify text --
&flags=text_to_state: drops county and/or city from text of site name.
(Note: trailing colon after each flag option.)
e. g.,
http://www..discoverlife.org/mp/20m?plot=2&kind=Clemensia+albata&site=33.9+-83.3&date1=2011,2012,2013&yscale=4&flags=moon:text_to_state:
-
Download spreadsheet --
&flags=build_txt: generates a txt file of the raw data.
(Note: trailing colon after each flag option.)
This file contains the following columns: 'days past 2009', 'year', 'month',
'day', 'julian day', 'days past new moon'
and additional columns for each 'species-site' combination. For example, a column labeled 'Actias luna 33.9 -83.3' would
contain our data for Luna Moths from latitude=33.9 and longitude=-83.3, our Blue Heron site in Clarke County, Georgia.
A value of -1 in these species-site columns indicates that we collected no data that night; value of 0 indicates that
we collected data and either the species was absent or we have yet to identify it in the photographs taken.
Please respect our terms of use.
e. g.,
http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20m?plot=2&kind=Clemensia+albata&site=33.9+-83.3&date1=2011,2012,2013&flags=build_txt:
-
Show flights --
&flags=flights: shows flights for those species listed in /moth/data/flights.txt .
Run flights.pl after editing flights.txt .
(Note: trailing colon after each flag option.)
e. g.,
http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20m?plot=2&kind=Clemensia+albata&site=33.9+-83.3&flags=moon:flights:
-
Model flights --
&flags=lt: or &flags=lt40,50:
set lower threshold(s) for day degree models.
Default of 'lt:' without specified temperature(s) (here 40 and 50) is '0,1,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55,58,60'
(Note: trailing colon after each flag option.) This is under development and only works for species and flights for which
models have already been run. In the example below, for instance, only 2010 - 2014 are fit and not 2015 onwards.
e. g.,
http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20m?plot=2&kind=Clemensia+albata&site=33.9+-83.3&flags=moon:flights:lt:
