occurrenceRemarksOccasional in wasteland. Stems glabrous, leaves glabrous, panicle rhachises puberulent. Leaves dark green, veins and undersides red-tinged. Inflorescence erect, sparingly branched, 10-14 mm diameter. Not convinced of identification here as the key to the species and the descriptions of A. cruentus and A. hybridus in Webb et al. (1988) overlap. I have gone for A. cruentus because the inflorescences are > 10 mm diameter BUT they are also erect (not drooping) - a feature of A. hybridus. The floral characters cited in Webb et al. (1988) also overlap. If this is A. hybridus then it would fit var. erythrostachs as defined in Webb et al. (1988). Webb CJ, Sykes WR, Garnock-Jones PJ 1988. Flora of New Zealand. Vol. IV. Botany Division, DSIR, Christchurch. Voucher: P.J. de Lange 13438, AK
