| The Emerald is considered one of the most endangered birds in Central America. Because of its status as critically endangered, its unique habitat, and being the only bird endemic solely to Honduras, the Emerald has become a flagship species for conservation in Honduras (The Explorers Club Flag # 51 Official Report).
