Asclepias purpurascens, Purple Milkweed

Flowers cluster near the top of the plant, a deeper color than Common Milkweed ranging from rust red to deep purple, veins are perpendicular to the midrib, lives in mesic conditions, can tolerate some shade. This was right at the edge of the Occoquan Bay at one of the streams outflow.
