Chauliognathus basalis - Colorado Plains Soldier Beetle (Cantharidae) in Colorado Springs, Drennan Blvd (N38 47.041', W104 44.930'), El Paso County, Colorado, USA; August 21, 2005. Size: L = 11 mm (female). Found on Heterotheca villosa - Golden Aster (and other flowers) in copulo. L = 11mm (female); L = 9.5 mm (male, longer antennae, more black on pronotum). Ranges reportedly from Eastern CO,KS to OK,TX.
