The Aucilla River headwaters in southern Georgia, just east of Thomasville, and flows through many swamps. It reaches this area of limestone and disappears underground. All the woody debris and trash deposits here. The topographic map is very interesting. It shows the course of the river, which is underground for several miles, through a series of long sinkholes. The water resurges at Nutall rise and continues on the surface until it reaches the Gulf of Mexico.
