This is another example of a "managed" river. The Savannah River is dammed for most of its length in the Piedmont Province of Georgia and South Carolina. The river forms the border between the two States. This project had to be one of the first on the river. In the distance is a channel wide diversion dam which diverts most of the flow of the river into the August Canal. It was built in 1845 so commercial boat traffic could bypass the Savannah Rapids. I am sure the river flows more when there are releases from Clark Hill Dam. mapper.acme.com/
