Mindi is sampling water as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's Avian Influenza study and a related study at the University of Georgia. We were collecting water and sediment samples to help determine if the virus exist in either media. Water chemistry is also analyzed. For more information: www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1544

The Patoka River was channelized in the 1920's. A deep ditch severed many bends in the river creating man made oxbows. This is one of them. For more information: www.fws.gov/Refuges/profiles/index.cfm?id=31560
