| Gypsum cotton is rare in southeastern U.S. caves. I only know of maybe three caves in Tennessee where it occurs. This area of the cave is far from the entrance. My last visit was maybe ten years ago. I remember the gypsum cotton forming beards that hung down as much as three feet. The beards were so fragile that they moved in the breeze created by a passing caver. I definitely saw two hand crumbled balls of gypsum cotton that I suspect were pulled off the ceiling. Both are visible in this image. Although this image does not depict exactly what I had in mind at least it shows the passage.
