| One of the mysteries about this cave is the lack of 1800's names and dates. All of the other large caves in the area were heavily visited. Most of the caves have hundreds if not thousands of 1800's names and dates. There are only a few in this cave with the oldest being 1847. One date that appears in three places is this 1891written in red pencil or crayon. There are apparently three people on the trip that claim to be a U.S. Survey or conducting a U.S. Survey. W.S. Winn signs in three places on July 5th, 1891. This particular image shows a partially impacted word below the name. I imported the image in Photoshop and manipulated the contrast. I was able to make out the word. It says " Winchester" KY (Kentucky). Luckily there is such a place. This may actually help determine what these people were doing in this cave in 1891.
