I have known about this waterfall all my life mostly because it is one of the two most famous waterfalls in the State. The other is Amicalola Falls. Yesterday was my first visit. It is 186 feet high. This is also the site of one of Georgia's greatest tragedies. On November 6, 1977 the dam on a 40 acre lake, above the falls, breached and sent a wall of water over the falls and through the campus of Toccoa Falls College. 39 people were killed and many injured.
