| We sample the river every two weeks through the late winter and early spring. During high flow, water from the river flows into the mile wide flood plain. Before we sample, a discharge measurement is made. Today, the discharge was 15,600 cubic feet per second (CFS). Dan is using a laser measuring device to determine our distance from the bank. The discharge measurement is made using an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP). For more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_Doppler_Current_Profiler
