I am not sure what flood stage is for the Altamaha River at Altamaha Park but the water level was exceeding it. We began to cross overflow channels about a mile from the river. The gage height at the U.S.G.S. real-time site at Altamaha was 16.61 feet. Chris and I put on waders and PFDs and took a tour. The highest peak occurred on April 13th. We were not the only people looking around. Many of the residents were also checking on their property. This flood so far spared most of them because their structures were on stilts.
