| This is Japanese beech fern. It is occasionally sold as a landscape plant in the Atlanta area. I know the Atlanta Botanical Garden has colonies of it. More and more exotic ferns are escaping into the wilds around Atlanta. This is the first time I have seen this species growing in a wild habitat. There is also a small plant of East Indian holly fern (Arachnoides simplicior) growing below the beech fern. It also occasionally escapes or is naturalized in some areas of the southeastern U.S. For more information: www.gatewaygardens.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=plants.plantD... hardyfernlibrary.com/ferns/listSpecies.cfm?Auto=101
