| This is southern running pine or fan clubmoss. It is related to ferns. The runner that is escaping is a horizontal stem. That is the easiest way to tell this species from other members of the Genus. The horizontal stem remain on the ground surface and roots at the upright stems. The cone like structures are strobili. The species can form huge colonies. This colony may have been an acre or more. For more information: www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=1&taxon_id=2... plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=LYDI3
